Hiring Funnel Sankey Diagram: Editable Template

Follow applicants from source through screening, interviews, offers and hires to 12-month retention, and see which sources produce interviews. Replace the counts with your own.

A hiring Sankey adds the source to the funnel. You can see not just how many candidates reach each stage but which channels they came from and which channels produce hires who stay.

A thousand applicants come from a job board, referrals and the company careers page. Each is screened out or interviewed, interviewed candidates receive an offer or are rejected, offers are accepted or declined, and hires are still employed after a year or have left.

Use anonymised counts. The data is invented, and small numbers can identify individuals in a real team, so aggregate before publishing.

How to read this diagram

  • 1,000 applicants lead to 70 hires, of whom 60 are still employed after 12 months.
  • The job board sends 60% of applicants but 40% of interviews (120 of 300).
  • Referrals reach interview at 60%, the careers site at 36% and the job board at 20%.
  • Of 90 offers, 70 are accepted (78%).

The data behind it

Invented figures for illustration. Not data about any real business.

How it works

  1. Define the stages

Settle what counts as screened, interviewed and offered, and keep it the same each period.

  2. Record the source for each candidate

Use the source captured at application.

  3. Count one hiring period

Follow the candidates who applied in that period to their current status.

  4. Enter and check

Type the flows and confirm that each stage sends on what it received.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add stages such as assessment?

Yes. Add a node for each and split the flow, keeping every candidate counted once.

How should I treat candidates still in process?

Add an In progress node, or use a cohort old enough that few remain.
