Warehouse outbound: the four templates from replenishment to shipping

Four templates in sequence — pick-face replenishment, order picking, packing and shipping — plus the short-pick exception, kitting, proof of delivery and the combined pick-pack-ship charts.

Outbound is the path from a released order to a carrier-accepted shipment. The sequence keeps the pick face stocked from reserve, picks the wave under scan and quantity control, packs and labels a verified parcel, then books, stages and dispatches it; the templates alongside cover the short-pick exception, kitting, delivery evidence and the single-chart versions that merge two or three of those steps.

Nothing can be picked from an empty pick face, so the sequence opens with replenishment: a threshold trips, reserve stock is moved and the pick-face scan confirms it. Order picking works the list with SKU, location and lot scans and delivers each sealed tote to packing, where every item is rescanned against the order, carton chosen and the parcel labeled. Shipping closes it: ship-to validated, carrier booked, manifest created, parcels staged, the trailer loaded to driver acceptance, and the dispatch notice sent.

The usual failure is an exception handled by the person who found it. A picker who finds an empty location and takes the next best item has changed the order; the short-pick template separates an empty pick face from a wrong item or damaged stock and routes replenishment, alternate supply or escalation before the order is closed. Packing rescans every item against the order for the same reason: a substitution at the pick face is caught at the bench, not at the door. A missed carrier cut-off is a decision made at the time, so packing checks it before the parcel is manifested and shipping again at departure, with the rebook and the handoff exception drawn rather than left to the driver.

What leaves the dock is only proven at the door: proof of delivery captures the signature, PIN or photograph, matches it to the order and releases the invoice, which is where order-to-cash picks the thread up. Between driver acceptance and that signature the generic library is thin — carrier routing, in-transit tracking and freight claims have no template, and the only load-planning and delivery-run charts are the furniture ones, written for an own-fleet operation. Anything that comes back travels through returns and reverse logistics, and a 3PL runs this same floor under a client's order and rate card.
