Marine electrical process: four SOPs from project mobilization to commissioning

The marine and offshore electrical job as four SOPs: offshore project mobilization, marine electrical installation, inspection and testing, and system commissioning, plus the turnkey, emergency, high-voltage, ATEX and design-change SOPs.

Marine electrical is the contractor's work on a vessel or an offshore installation: get certified technicians to site, install cabling and panels to approved drawings, test what was installed, and energise and commission it under a signed approval. This family orders four SOPs in that sequence and adds the six around a job, from the turnkey project and the 24/7 repair line to high-voltage work and the design change that precedes an installation.

Mobilization is a gate before it is a schedule: every technician must hold current GWO and offshore certification for the site, and work runs under the site operator's permit-to-work. Installation starts from an engineering review of the drawings, verifies materials, and passes a workmanship inspection and de-energised checks before handing over to commissioning. The inspection and testing SOP stands alone, so a customer can order a survey with no other job attached, but its test list is what an installation must pass. Commissioning submits the test results for a responsible engineer's energisation approval, energises under controlled conditions and works the fault loop to a signed handover.

The controls are the hard gates: certification before mobilization, material verification before installation, a workmanship pass before de-energised checks, an energisation approval with no schedule exception. Where the work is dangerous the family adds a stricter SOP rather than a note: high-voltage work requires a written isolation plan, a named Authorised Person's authorisation and a proved-dead check before anyone touches the system, and ATEX/EEx service halts on any mismatch between certification and nameplate. The emergency repair SOP is the 24/7 route, where impact on safety or vessel operability sets the dispatch and a repaired system is load-tested before handback.

Upstream sits the engineering and design change SOP, whose internal review and customer approval of the design package are what the crew builds to, and whose as-built loop closes the documentation. The turnkey project SOP is the same sequence with the contractor owning requirements, procurement and closeout too; procurement inside it is a step, not a separate template, and demobilization is a gate at the end of mobilization rather than a page of its own. Mechanical repair on the same vessel is ship repair, instrument work is instrumentation services, and all three are personas under marine, offshore and industrial services.
