Construction Project Delivery Process Templates

Editable construction process flowcharts for RFIs, submittal review, change orders, building permits, progress payments, inspection hold points, punch lists and extension of time claims.

A connected library for general contractors, owner's representatives, architects and engineers, and subcontractors. Start with the RFI or the submittal, then follow the handoffs to the change order, the payment application and the punch list.

Construction projects run on a small number of written exchanges between parties who do not share a manager. The contract administration chain follows a question from the field through the RFI, the priced change order and the progress payment, with the extension of time claim beside it for events that move the finish date.

The approvals and closeout chain is the quality path: submittal review before purchase, the building permit with the authority, hold point inspections during the work and the punch list at the end.

These are vendor-neutral starting points. Contract forms, notice periods, stamp wording, retainage rules and permit procedures vary by country and by agreement, so rewrite each chart with the people who administer your contract before using it.

Draw the exchange, not just the task

Most construction disputes come from a handoff nobody drew: a response with no deadline, a notice sent to the wrong party, a release nobody recorded. These charts put the contractor, the design team, the owner and the authority in separate swimlanes so each exchange, its clock and its return path are visible. Use QueryChart's approval workflow and version history to keep the approved version and who released it.

Contract administration

Construction contract administration is the paper trail that decides who pays for what and who owns the delay: a field question becomes a written answer, a written answer becomes a priced change, a priced change becomes a line on the next payment application, and an event that moves the finish date becomes a notice with a clock on it.
