What the market expansion gantt chart template with entry gate and entity setup process is

Opening a new country is several projects that look like one. Someone researches demand, someone sets up a legal entity, someone adapts the product and the price list, someone finds partners, and someone has to hire. Each stream moves at its own speed, and the real delays come where one stream needs another: you cannot hire locally before payroll is registered, you cannot sign a distributor before the entity exists, and you cannot spend on localization before anyone has agreed the market is worth entering. A timeline makes those waits visible while they are still cheap to change.

This template has five groups: Research and decision, Entity and legal setup, Localization and partners, Team and operations, and Launch and review. It has 22 tasks and three milestones. "Size the market and competitors" (8 working days) is the only starting task. It leads to "Interview local customers" (6) and "Assess regulatory and tax landscape" (5), and both must finish before the "Market entry approved" milestone. That gate is the point of the plan: nothing that costs real money starts until it is passed.

After the gate the plan splits into streams that run side by side. "Choose entity structure with advisers" (5) leads to "Register the local entity" (15), a long wait that gates other work, which then opens "Open local bank account" (8) and "Register for tax and payroll" (6). Beside it, "Adapt product and documentation" (20) and "Set local pricing and payment methods" (6) start at the gate, and "Translate website and support content" (12) starts 5 days after the adaptation starts rather than waiting for it to finish. Partner talks run in the same window: "Shortlist partners and distributors" (6) leads to "Negotiate distributor agreements" (12).

Two joins decide the date. "Partner agreements signed" is a milestone that waits for the negotiation and for "Register the local entity", so a contract is not signed on behalf of a company that does not exist yet. "Hire local sales and support staff" (15) waits for "Recruit country lead" (15) and for "Register for tax and payroll". "Market launch" then waits for "Prepare the launch campaign" (10), "Train partners and local team" (5) and the bank account, and "Run first-quarter sales and support" (60) ends in "Review first-quarter results" (3). All durations are illustrative: replace them with what your advisers, registries and recruiters tell you.

This chart schedules the work. It does not give legal or tax advice, and it does not make an entity registered, a contract valid or a launch compliant. Which structure, registrations and filings your country needs is for your advisers and local authorities. For the decision logic behind the gate, see /templates/go-no-go-decision-process. What this flowchart covers

In this template

  • Five groups, Research and decision, Entity and legal setup, Localization and partners, Team and operations and Launch and review, with 22 tasks and three milestones: "Market entry approved", "Partner agreements signed" and "Market launch".
  • An entry gate: "Market entry approved" waits for "Interview local customers" and "Assess regulatory and tax landscape", and entity, localization and partner work all start after it.
  • Entity setup that gates other work: "Register the local entity" (15 working days) comes before "Open local bank account", "Register for tax and payroll" and "Partner agreements signed".
  • Localization beside partner talks: "Translate website and support content" starts 5 days after "Adapt product and documentation" starts, while "Negotiate distributor agreements" runs in parallel.
  • A launch with three joins and a long tail: "Market launch" follows the campaign, training and the bank account, then "Run first-quarter sales and support" (60 working days) and "Review first-quarter results".

When to use this template

  • You are planning entry into a new country or region and need legal, product, sales and hiring teams on one timeline.
  • You want to see which step decides the launch date, and how much a slow entity registration pushes hiring and partner signing.
  • A leadership team wants the entry gate and the launch on one page and you want to compare the finish date with the date you need.
  • You want a repeatable skeleton for each new market that your team adapts to the country.

The plan, task by task

Every task in the chart with its length in working days and what it waits for. A dependency is a step number; SS is start-to-start, FF is finish-to-finish, and +n is a lag in working days.

How it works

  1. Set the gate first

Keep "Interview local customers" and "Assess regulatory and tax landscape" ahead of "Market entry approved". Add the research your leadership needs before it will say yes.

  2. Replace the entity durations with real ones

Ask your advisers how long "Register the local entity" and "Register for tax and payroll" usually take in that country and change the durations. These are the waits most likely to move the whole plan.

  3. Run localization and partners together

Leave "Adapt product and documentation", "Set local pricing and payment methods" and "Shortlist partners and distributors" starting at the gate. Add tasks for your own items, such as packaging, certifications or language review.

  4. Keep the signing behind the entity

"Partner agreements signed" waits for "Register the local entity". Move that link only if your advisers confirm a different route is possible for your case.

  5. Check the launch joins

"Market launch" waits for the campaign, training and the bank account. Add anything else that must be true on day one, such as stock in the country or a support line.

  6. Add owners, share and export

Put the responsible person in People, share the chart with the teams involved, and export a PDF or CSV for the leadership update when you need a copy.

Frequently asked questions

Does this chart give legal or tax advice?

No. It schedules the work. Which entity, registrations and filings a country requires is for your own advisers and the local authorities, and the chart does not make anything registered, valid or compliant.

How long does entering a new market take?

It depends on the country, the product and how much you localize. The template adds up to several months of working days with illustrative lengths. Replace them with your own and read the finish date from the chart.

Why does hiring wait for payroll registration?

Because you usually cannot employ people locally before the employer is set up for payroll. "Hire local sales and support staff" waits for "Register for tax and payroll", while "Recruit country lead" starts at the gate. Check the rule for your country with your advisers.

Can I use this for a region with several countries?

Copy the chart per country, or add each country as a group. For the launch itself, see /templates/product-launch-gantt-chart, and for the method behind the links, see /guides/gantt-chart-dependencies.

How do I show tasks that overlap?

Link them start-to-start with a lag, as "Translate website and support content" is linked to "Adapt product and documentation". For the method, see /guides/gantt-chart-overlapping-tasks.
